How is this year almost over?
Saturday, November 19, 2005

Before I go back to film school, I thought I'd fix up the backend of the site a bit so I can update it without wasting time with website code. Almost exclusively, I've updated websites by hand ever since I started managing websites about ...7 years ago?

With my very very limited knowledge of silly things like "PHP," I've struggled to get an auto-blogging function on the site, and then struggled again to customize it. Being a perfectionist, my job was, as you can imagine, very hard. Special thanks to Hawk for escorting me to several jumping-off points.

But enough about website gibberish! Most of you who visit the site, being the internet population that you are, are probably ashamed at my lack of computer knowledge at this point. So on with more important matters (important to me anyway):

I'll start writing formal reviews for these in the near future, but let me just run down a few movies I saw lately:

Stay - 1/10: This movie was flat-out bad, not that I expected much from the director of Finding Neverland and the writer of Troy (two films I loathed). Nothing like watching a movie where the director feels like he can ignore story structure and do whatever he wants. I thought it was going to win out as worst movie of 2005 until I saw...

G - 0/10: Now, let me just say, I don't freely hand out "zero" ratings, but this version of F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" as told by hip-hop African American rap mogul/gangsters in the Hamptons was just so insulting it seems worthy of the mark. I promised myself that if they showed the metaphorical eyes of T.J. Eckleberg as an ad for Oakley sunglasses, I was walking out.

Good Night, and Good Luck - 9/10: How surprised was I when I happened to sumble upon my favorite movie of the end so far immediately after seeing my least favorite? This movie blows everything else out of the water, which is hard to say without giving my full meaning since the rest of this year was so poor for movies. I need to see this again and it was so refreshing to see a newly released black and white film.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 3/10: Since when did it become cool to tell an incoherent story? And no, I haven't read the books - you shouldn't have to read the books to follow the movie, otherwise, why make the movie? Tied with Chamber of Secrets as the worst Harry Potter movie to date. Mad-Eye Moodie was the only thing that really saved this sinking ship. Considering how much I loved Prisoner of Azkaban, this was a real shame.

That brings us up to date. I really want to see Walk the Line. The Johnny Cash fan in me has Fandango up and loaded all ready, but the filmmaker in me is trying to remind me of what happened with Ray (Ray was great, it just didn't stand alone as a movie - there goes my opinion of most biopics).

Come hell or high water, I will have a comic up for Monday. I've also added a direct link to the forum to post comments about the comic or what I say here.

See you all on Monday, people people!
