The Tonight Show with No-Man O'Brien
January 22, 2010

A fond farewell to Conan O'Brien. Sure, he's not really going away as he'll be back in some form probably by the end of the year, but it's a pity all the same.

The Tonight Show is a brand, let's not forget that. It's one of the most powerful institutions on television in the history of its creation. Was it a right fit for Conan? Probably not. But did he deserve to have it? Absolutely.

Leno will probably have the show for at least another fifteen years - about as much time it'll take for most people to forget about current events. Of course all this mess isn't Leno's fault - but I think it's not so much what he did, but what he didn't do. It's pretty easy to stand back and watch NBC do whatever they want - it's even easier when it results in giving you your own show in primetime or handing you the Tonight Show on a silver platter.

But the important thing is to keep the focus on Conan. Stay positive. At 11:35PM, this be his last episode of the "The Tonight Show," let's make it a good one!
